Thank you Dream Eye Center!
If you are contemplating getting eye surgery here in Korea, I highly recommend Dream Eye Center in Myeong dong. The staff, doctors and procedure are top notch, not to mention completely in English. The consultation is completely free, so I recommend taking that step to see for yourself.
I had lasik eye surgery in April, and the surgery itself is pretty incredible. If you're feeling a little scared, here's a breakdown of the procedure. First, they put a gown over your clothes and cap on your head, then wipe your face down. An assistant is there to hold your hand and talk to you if you are nervous :-) A few minutes later I was escorted into the operating room, where I should mention the person with you can see everything happening through the window and a monitor, so my boyfriend was able to watch the whole procedure. They laid me down and gave me a big pillow to hold for comfort. The doctor spoke excellent English and walked me through the whole procedure. He asked me to look at the green light. They use several eye drops to numb the eyes and then covered one eye while they did the procedure on the other. There's some kind of tool they use to keep your eye open so you don't blink. For lasik they have to cut and peel back the cornea, which will be explained during the consultation. That takes about 5-10secs and everything is blurry for a bit.. keep looking at the green light and the actual laser fixes the eye in about 15secs. This is the strangest part probably because you can smell your eye burning, but don't worry, it doesn't hurt at all! Finally, they put the cornea flap back in place and cover it with a contact lens for one day to help it heal. The same procedure is done with the other eye. In a matter of 10mins I was finished and could see pretty good already, enough not to need glasses. They put you in a resting room, laying on a nice warm bed with your choice of music and ask that you keep your eyes shut for 10mins or so. The doc then checks them and you're free to go! Wham bam, just like that! The easiest surgery ever I think. :-)
Special thanks to 문주 for being so fantastic throughout the whole consultation, procedure, and follow-ups.
